A significant part of our international work at Michelmores is to advise clients based in Asia, which is emerging to be one of the strongest global markets. We act for international businesses with offices or interests in Asia and advise high-net-worth clients undertaking cross-border and investment activities across Asia and worldwide.

Our work includes:

  • Corporate deals and acquiring businesses or setting up joint ventures
  • International cross border disputes
  • Trust administration
  • International funds
  • Commercial and residential property transactions
  • Establishing operations or starting businesses in other jurisdictions

In addition to our own experts, we can draw on local support from an established network of market-leading law firms in multiple jurisdictions.

Recent experience

Advising FRP Advisory to act for the trustee in bankruptcy of a former Medical Doctor who committed a high-value insurance fraud. Our role included obtaining funds from a Hong Kong based company and obtaining an order for possession and sale of the family home.

Advising Centek and their US parent company, Madison, when they discovered an employee on gardening leave had sent confidential information to his personal email accounts which would enable him to set up a competing business. Confidential information had been sent to third parties in Malaysia and attempts had been made to delete relevant information. We worked with Malaysian lawyers to obtain without notice ‘search and seize’ orders and we were successful in a committal application against the ex-employee for contempt of court. The ex-employee was committed to 14 months in prison.

Advising PETA Foundation UK Ltd, a long-standing client of the firm on its UK, US and Asia arms of PETA in relation to claims made against PETA for its publications speaking out against animal cruelty.

Advising Freedom Finance Group PLC, incorporated in the AIFC, in respect of financial services law within the AIFC. FFG PLC is a leading investment adviser and broker in Kazakhstan. FFG PLC is a subsidiary of NASDAQ listed Freedom Holding Corp which offers services in asset management, investment banking and capital markets.

Advising Intelsat, one of the world’s largest satellite service providers on international contractual disputes, negotiation of settlement terms, the enforcement of English High Court Judgments overseas and local enforcement measures using our valuable network of overseas firms. Our work includes pursuing licence fees and multi-million-dollar contractual claims against major customers across Asia including India, Pakistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Dubai, Egypt, Japan and Russia.

Advising a high-net-worth individual who has founded three separate billion-dollar companies throughout his career, in relation to a dispute with an ex-employee / former romantic partner, her solicitor at the time and The Telegraph. The issues stem from defamatory comments made by the individual and her solicitor to The Telegraph. This is a high-profile matter which has featured heavily in the media both in the UK and Pakistan.

Advising a UK/Israel based research company on all matters relating to immigration advice, sponsor licences and visas.

Advising an agriculture sector client to improve the quality of its produce in China. Our intellectual property team has helped the client to negotiate a commercial joint venture to support the research of new technologies and data analytics.

Advising a Japanese based investment company on all commercial, construction and real estate matters involved in a large UK development project.
