Michelmores has advised Triodos Bank UK on a £4.1 million financing package supporting Dunmow Solar, a 10MW ground-mounted solar farm near Great Dunmow in Essex.
The subsidy-free solar farm began exporting electricity in 2025 and is expected to generate approximately 14,500MWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to power more than 4,000 average UK homes while avoiding around 6,337 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The project is owned by Fair Play Clean Energy Limited, a joint venture between Thrive Renewables and TopCashback Group Ltd. The financing will refinance shareholder capital already invested in the project, enabling further investment into future renewable energy developments.
Michelmores advised long-standing client Triodos Bank UK on all aspects of the financing. The multidisciplinary team was led by Danielle Collett-Bruce, Managing Associate (Banking), and included Stephen Newson, Partner (Transactional Real Estate); Ian Holyoak, Partner (Commercial); Alexandra Watson, Partner (Corporate); Harry Allen, Senior Associate (Transactional Real Estate) and Sophie McAuley, Associate (Transactional Real Estate) as well as support from Tatiana Menezes, Associates (Commercial).
Danielle Collett-Bruce commented:
“We are pleased to have supported Triodos Bank UK on this financing, which will enable further investment in renewable energy infrastructure. The transaction demonstrates how sustainable finance can play a vital role in accelerating the UK’s transition to a lower-carbon economy, while helping to unlock capital for future clean energy projects.”
Triodos Bank UK has worked with Thrive Renewables on renewable energy finance for more than 30 years, supporting a range of projects through debt finance, share offers and bond raises. The funding forms part of Triodos Bank UK’s ongoing commitment to supporting the growth of renewable energy generation and accelerating the UK’s energy transition.
