The shortlist has been announced for the 2017 Michelmores Property Awards, which celebrate outstanding property and construction projects in Bristol, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Cornwall, across ten categories.

A panel of ten judges with expertise across the property and construction sector and in-depth knowledge of the region, came together for the judging day on 24 March 2017 to shortlist an impressive list of submissions.

The shortlisted projects for Category 5: Heritage Project of the Year are:

Jubilee Pool, Penzance – submitted by Mott Macdonald and Cornwall Council

The Jubilee Pool Coastal Communities Project saw the restoration of one of the last surviving art deco lidos in the country, an important seafront asset in Penzance. The project has enabled the lido to better support a range of activities, including the provision of training and volunteering opportunities, festivals and sport events.

Somerset Place, Bath – submitted by Jonathan Rhind Architects

The project saw the rejuvenation of a Grade I Georgian house, at Somerset Place in Bath, to a six-bedroom home. The project followed the property’s original layout, whilst renewing and repairing original Georgian fabrics and furnishings. Somerset Place is part of the wider Lansdowne area of Bath with extensive tiers of terraces – the high point of Georgian architecture.

The General, Bristol – submitted by Hydrock

The General, a multi-use development in the heart of Bristol saw the transformation of the former Bristol General Hospital into over 200 one to four-bedroom apartments. Some of the properties, which include a converted chapel and a penthouse apartment in the famous octagonal tower, are set around a central courtyard, whilst others offer views across the Bathurst Basin.

St John’s Hall, Penzance – submitted by Midas Group

The restoration project of St John’s Hall, Penzance saw the major refurbishment and remodelling of the hall, a Grade II Listed four-storey council building and one of the UK’s largest granite buildings. St John’s Hall is one of Penzance’s most important buildings – now a natural focal point for community events, including the Golowan Midsummer festival.
