Michelmores has advised renewable energy company Zestec Renewable Energy on a landmark 8.5MWp installation expected to become the UK’s largest solar PV system on a single continuous roof.
The project is being delivered by Zestec in partnership with GB NRG and has now reached a significant milestone with completion of the agreement. The project will next move into the construction phase, with the teams focused on progressing the programme towards energisation.
Michelmores advised Zestec (who are owned by funds managed by Octopus Energy Generation) on the transaction, with the Real Estate team leading on the property aspects of the deal, including property due diligence and the lease. The Real Estate team comprised Partner Stephen Newson and Senior Associate Jessica Hopkins.
Commercial advice, including in relation to the Power Purchase Agreement, was provided by Commercial Associate Tatiana Menezes and Partner / Head of Energy Ian Holyoak.
Tatiana Menezes said: “We are delighted to have supported Zestec on this significant project. Reaching completion has been a real team effort and reflects the collaborative and pragmatic approach taken by everyone involved. Projects of this scale require close coordination across a number of workstreams, and it has been a pleasure working alongside Toby and the wider Zestec team to reach this important milestone. We look forward to seeing the project progress through construction and into operation.”
Toby Smith of Zestec said: “Projects of this scale involve careful planning, so having the right expertise and a collaborative approach throughout the process is essential. We are grateful to the Michelmores team for their support and dedication: our long-standing partnership has shown, yet again, that we can work efficiently together, and with our clients, to bring major projects into construction.”
The project builds on Michelmores’ experience advising clients on complex projects and transactions, supporting energy transition.
