At Michelmores there is a real sense of togetherness amongst our people and a genuinely friendly, supportive and collaborative working environment. We really care about what we stand for and our collective future success.
Eight teams of bright, hard-working people from different specialisms make up our Business Services function, all of whom think in a commercial way and never stop striving to maximise our contribution to the business.
Utilising their specialist expertise, creative thinking and commercial approach our Business Services teams (BST) provide a pivotal role in our Firm’s success. As well as frequently collaborating across teams, BST colleagues work in partnership with our lawyers and partners to create a destination law firm for our clients, people and communities.
Whether your expertise is in crunching numbers, identifying and managing risks, implementing new technologies, task management or bringing in and growing the very best talent, you can expect the support and opportunity to build a long-term career at Michelmores.
We are always thinking about how we can improve what we do, and not stand still. From day one, we encourage people to believe that there’s no such thing as a bad idea: creativity and innovation is valued in every role.
As a firm we strive to be more understanding, more flexible and less prescriptive about how we enable our people to succeed in their roles.
We understand the huge importance of flexibility when it comes to how we work and we strive to play to people’s strengths and give our people the personal platform they need to perform best.
There is also plenty of scope for personal development and progression. We frequently support individuals to gain new qualifications, transition into new roles, and progress within the firm. Our structured training programmes and one-to-one mentoring schemes let each person shape their own career.
And we have plenty going on outside of work too, with clubs, sports teams, socials and client events to get involved in.
Creating a culture of respect for wellbeing is central to our ethos. As a Firm, we are committed to an environment that promotes positive wellbeing, and in which everyone feels able to talk openly about their mental and physical health and be supported. We work hard to create a working environment in which everyone feels psychologically safe, fully supported, and able to openly talk about personal situations that may be affecting them
We partner with highly regarded organisations to provide the right benefits, policies, training courses and workshops to help us to create opportunities for our People to prioritise wellbeing.
We want to bring our shared values of mutual support and inclusion into every aspect of work at Michelmores. We understand how much of an impact our relationships at work can have on us so providing opportunities for our People to establish healthy and collaborative connections is part of our commitment to helping everyone at the Firm to feel valued.
We provide expertise and resources to support financial wellbeing and independence; we want our People to have the financial freedom to make choices that allow them to enjoy their lives without needing to worry about day-to-day expenses. Our financial wellbeing benefits range from discount vouchers to help your money go that little bit further or allowing you to claim money back for healthcare treatments through Medicash, to providing insurances to support you and your family through difficult times and a pension scheme to enable you to plan for your retirement.
Our flexible working and family support policies have been written to provide additional assistance for our colleagues when they need it most. We provide enhanced parental leave, family leave support and a family buddy scheme to support the return to work after the birth or adoption of a child; we also have policies that cover fertility, pregnancy loss, domestic violence and premature births.
We believe our people work at their best when given choice about where and how they work. Our approach is based on the assumption that here there is no “one size fits all”. We remain committed to agile working and are constantly looking to improve how we work together.HOW WE WORK
At Michelmores we are committed to supporting colleagues to reach their full potential and to thrive. We believe in treating people as individuals, tailoring their development needs so one size fits one and encouraging our people to develop in areas that excite them or make them different. That is how we nurture the brightest and best people. Our approach to having Continuous Conversations with your Team Leader will allow you explore your career, play to your strengths and build your development goals together with the support you need to succeed.
Central to our culture is our nurturing, friendly and flexible environment which genuinely allows our people to grow and flourish, both personally and professionally. That is why many of our Business Services professionals study towards formal qualifications that help them to progress in their chosen field. It’s part of our goal to empower you to actively shape your individual development journey. Many of our colleagues have progressed to specialist and management roles in their chosen profession.
Alongside more formal learning, we offer opportunities to come together with colleagues from across the business for workshops as well as sector-specific knowledge sessions. These opportunities enable us all to build strong connections, share experiences, and collaborate through learning.
“Michelmores offers a continuous program of learning and development opportunities on a wide range of topics – from time management skills to building your personal resilience. In addition to live training sessions, on-demand webinars on legal and business support topics are also available, allowing you to take ownership of your own development at a time that suits you.
Knowledge sharing sessions allow us to share our experience and expertise to continuously develop and learn from each other which makes us stronger as a Firm. Michelmores also sponsored my master’s degree – the Firm takes the professional and personal development of their people very seriously.”
