Stephen is a Partner in the Real Estate team.
He joined Michelmores in September 2012, from the Real Estate division of City firm Herbert Smith Freehills LLP.
Stephen has extensive experience in investment, development and asset management of commercial real estate. He has particular expertise in high-end landlord and tenant work, acting for institutional investors, leading property companies and investment funds in the UK.
He also acts for corporate occupier clients, primarily on the relocation of headquarters or acquisition of additional space. Stephen acts for property developers both in the SW and further afield on forward funding, forward purchase and development agreements.
Stephen plays keyboard in the Michelmores in-house rock band, the Disclaimers, and is in the Michelmores Choir. He also impersonates a well-known BBC political correspondent: can you guess who?
- Acting for the Carlyle Group (a large US investment fund manager) in their capacity as landlord of two prestigious office buildings in Manchester and Birmingham. In a recent surge of lettings at both buildings with tenants requiring quick access, Stephen had to work to tight timescales to ensure coordination of agreements for lease and landlords works to enable tenants to take occupation to fit-out on time.
- Acting for L-GAM Advisers LLP (a UK investment fund manager) in the leasehold acquisition of new headquarters in London SW1. Again, timing was tight on this transaction and Stephen was required to coordinate completion of new lease documentation with consents from the Crown Estate and surrender of existing tenants legacy space. He had to liaise with multiple professional advisers.
- Acting for South West developer Prego Developments Ltd on a development pre-letting agreement in relation to a new car dealership within a new phase of Matford Green Exeter, the largest car dealership space in Europe. The agreement required complex, bespoke provisions relating to planning, development and estates services.
