Entries open for charity run

Organisers of the 12th Annual Michelmores Charity Run have announced that entries are now open, but are urging runners to apply early as they are expecting a bumper starting line-up.

The 5K event begins on Cathedral Green before taking in Princesshay, the Guildhall Shopping Centre, back to the Northernhay memorial statue and on to Rougemont Gardens, for a short uphill sprint finish at Exeter Castle. Entrants are limited to 1200 with a minimum age limit of 15 years. Runners will be provided with a race t-shirt sponsored by Pencarrie, which they are required to wear, unless they choose to run in fancy dress.

The event has now raised over £300,000 for local good causes with this year’s beneficiary being Macmillan Cancer Support and entrants are being encouraged to open a Just Giving account (www.justgiving.com) or to use the sponsorship form provided by Michelmores to support the charity.

Race organiser, Louise Edwards, said: “We are expecting a really great evening. There will be food and drink available for runners at Exeter Castle where there will be prizes for individuals, teams and a free raffle draw for everybody raising more than £50 in sponsorship.

“We hope to attract runners of all abilities who can complete the course in their own time and we especially want runners to encourage their friends and families to line the route and cheer everyone round.”

The 2014 Michelmores Charity Run takes place on Tuesday 10 June commencing at 7pm.  Entries before May 12 will attract a discounted entry fee of £15. All entries after May 12 will be £20.  Entries can also be made on line by visiting www.michelmores.com/charityrun
