Michelmores’ Disputed Wills and Trusts team has been appointed as the preferred legal provider for all legacy related matters for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is the world’s largest cancer charity. They are at the forefront of the UK and global research effort against cancer and were involved last year in the development of the Francis Crick Institute, Europe’s largest biomedical research centre, bringing scientists from across the world to the UK to discover new ways to diagnose and treat cancer.

Cancer Research UK rely on the generosity of donors to help fund their pioneering research, all with one aim – to help beat cancer sooner. A significant part of this fundraising is represented by donors leaving a legacy in their Will. In 2016/17 over 6,000 legacies were left to the charity, totalling £187 million.

Tony Cockayne, head of the Disputed Wills and Trusts team at Michelmores, commented

“Legacies are a vital source of income for many charities. For many years we have represented charities across England and Wales, and as Corporate Partners of the Institute of Legacy Management are acutely aware of the issues that can arise when dealing with charity gifts in Wills. We are delighted to be helping Cancer Research UK in this interesting area.”

Maria King, head of Legacy Professional Partnerships at Cancer Research UK said

“We were impressed with the enthusiasm Tony and the team demonstrated in the panel process. Their pragmatic approach, combined with the strong team dynamic, demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the best outcome for all parties involved inwhen left a gift in a Wills.”

Michelmores is proud to be associated with Cancer Research UK and look forward to working closely with them going forward.
