Meet the trainee: Sarah Duke

Sarah studied Classical Studies at Exeter University and completed her GDL and LPC at the University of Law, Moorgate. Sarah joined Michelmores in September 2014 and is currently in her third seat in the Property Litigation team, following seats in Corporate and Disputed Wills and Trusts.

What did you do before starting your training contract?

After graduating in 2011, I took a gap year and went travelling around Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia which was an amazing experience. I then completed my GDL and LPC at the University of Law, Moorgate, before moving back to Devon to start my training contract with Michelmores in 2014.

What made you choose Michelmores?

I was looking for a firm outside of London that offered high quality work. I had loved being at university in Exeter and was hoping to move back to the South West. The collegiate feel at Michelmores really appealed to me, as well as the broad range of training seats that are offered.

What’s been your best moment so far?

It’s really difficult to pick just one! The high level of responsibility is probably the best thing and so my best moments are when I’m able to make a real difference to the work undertaken for the client.

Outside of the office

Outside the office I am the national representative for the Devon and Somerset Junior Lawyers Division. I also undertake pro bono company secretarial work for a local charity and assist the firm with various HR and marketing events. In my leisure time I’m a keen surfer and I also enjoy playing tennis and going for long hikes on Dartmoor.
