Max Nicholls

About

Max is a senior associate in the Private Wealth team.

He qualified in 2002, and joined Michelmores in 2004. He worked as a corporate solicitor for six years, before joining the Private Wealth team in 2010.

Max specialises in advising individuals and families on a range of estate planning issues, including the mitigation of Inheritance Tax, succession to family assets and the creation and use of trusts to manage and protect family wealth.  

In his role, Max regularly advises clients on wills and lasting powers of attorney and has a particular interest in, and experience of, advising individuals and families with business interests on succession-related issues.  

Recent Experience

  • Advising the owners of a family business on arranging their affairs so as to safeguard their interests in the family business for the next generation, while also making suitable provision for their spouses. 
  • Advising on an application to the Court of Protection to obtain authority for an attorney to make significant gifts on behalf of a parent, with a view to mitigating the likely Inheritance Tax liability that will arise on the parent's death. 
  • Advising the trustees of an offshore trust on the application of the French reporting obligations (which apply to trusts with a French connection) and the trustees' compliance with such obligations.
