Michelmores reaches second place in the Active Devon Workplace Challenge

Thanks to the impressive sporting achievements of Michelmores staff during January and February 2016, the Firm was named runner-up in the Active Devon Workplace Challenge.

The Workplace Challenge is a national programme from the County Sports Partnership Network, a nationwide network of 45 County Sports Partnerships (CSP), which aims to engage workplaces in sport and physical activity.

Active Devon is the CSP for Devon, who work with a wide range of trusted partners to develop a diverse range of opportunities for people of all ages at all stages of their life, to be active. In recent years, they have led the way in getting Devon workplaces more active, offering advice, activation packages and training to ensure that local employers create vibrant workplaces with active, motivated staff and a strong culture of workplace wellbeing.

Over 40 Staff at Michelmores took part in the Workplace Challenge – which saw participants record all of their sport and fitness activity for eight weeks.

In recognition of their efforts, Michelmores’ participants were presented with an ‘instant ping!’ portable Ping Pong net, enabling staff to get active at lunchtime in the office.

Scott Kendall, Workplace Challenge lead at Active Devon said:

“The eight week challenge has once again been an enormous success with 15 workplaces trying out different types of physical activity from table tennis to yoga. The combined efforts of all the Devon workplaces involved in the challenge was the equivalent of 7000 miles of travel which saved a staggering 750kg of C02 and £350 of fuel. Huge congratulations go to our winning teams including Michelmores, whose staff worked hard to keep themselves in the running for the a top spot on the leader board”

Alex McKenna, Sports Committee representative at the Firm said:

“Taking part in the Workplace Challenge was a great opportunity for staff to come together to compete against other local businesses, whilst taking part in the sport that they enjoy most. The Challenge has encouraged more staff to engage with sport at the Firm, which I hope will lead to success at this year’s Exeter Business Games!”
