Michelmores nominated for The Lawyer Awards 2018
In March 2017, Oxygen House and Michelmores forged an innovative partnership to pursue energy independence and a congestion free Exeter by 2025. Matt Gingell, General Counsel for Oxygen House, was subsequently shortlisted by The Lawyer for the In-house Lawyer of the Year award in 2017 over the unique way in which he procured the appointment of Michelmores.
The Firm's shortlist for the Awards this year recognises the achievements realised through the collaboration over the last twelve months such as:
- concluding the construction, funding and letting of a 22,500 sq ft office with a 128KW solar array
- acquiring a city centre building for commercial and residential occupation and redeveloping a retrofit grade II listed building for residential occupation
- moving to a paperless billing system, implementing a zero to landfill policy and reviewing their environmental strategy to build a more sustainable workforce
Matt Gingell, General Counsel for Oxygen House, said: "Collaboration was key to forging an innovative and unique relationship between a customer and a supplier. In our case a law firm and its client, and we are delivering a significant impact in our own business and influencing the wider property market."
Jonathan Kitchin, Partner in Michelmores’ Business Group, is responsible for delivering the objectives of this partnership and commented: "We are delighted to have been recognised for our efforts in promoting sustainability. The relationship with Oxygen House has been the catalyst for innovation taking place well beyond the boundaries of a traditional solicitor/ client relationship and is embedded across the Firm requiring input and collaboration with real estate and construction lawyers and the firm’s finance, marketing and facilities teams. We are committed to expanding our environmental policy, across both our client base and our employees."
The Lawyer Awards 2018 winners will be announced on Tuesday 26th June 2018 at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
