From 8 January 2025, all eligible non-EU nationals will require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel, or transit, through the UK.

For a full list of the nationalities who can now apply for an ETA, see here.

As set out in our previous article, here, an ETA is only required by non-visa national visitors. Visa-national individuals should continue to apply for UK visas as normal and presently are unaffected by the new ETA roll out.

Based on the Home Office’s current projections, from April 2025, all travellers to the UK (except British and Irish citizens) will need permission to travel in advance through either ETA or an eVisa.

Should you wish to discuss any of the issues raised in this article, please contact Nicole Hambleton.
