The 2017 Michelmores 5k Charity Run has been shortlisted in the Exeter Living Awards for Event of the Year.
Last year’s Run, which took place on 7 September 2017, saw a record-breaking fundraising total of over £33,400 – the proceeds of which went to the Firm’s 2017 Charity of the Year, Balloons. The charity provide crucial pre and post bereavement support to children and young people who have either lost someone significant in their lives, or are preparing for that imminent loss.
The Michelmores Charity Run is organised completely in-house, led by the Firm’s Events Executive, and a team of four others within the Firm’s Marketing team. Doing so means that outgoing costs are minimal, allowing the event to raise as much as possible for charity.
Last year’s event also received a record number of entrants – over 1,100 people came together to run, walk or jog the route. A further 70 people volunteered as marshalls, and many supporters came together, lining the streets to cheer the runners on, despite the rain! The event was also greener than ever before, for the first time being advertised only through online methods and by word-of-mouth.
Naomi Morris, Events Executive at Michelmores commented:
“The Michelmores Charity Run is an established event in the calendar year that really brings the community together. Not only does it provide a platform of awareness and engagement for local charities, but it also attracts some fantastic corporate sponsors each year – and so working further to bring the city together. The 2017 Run raised over £20,000 in individual and corporate sponsorship, again a record year for the team!
“We are delighted to be shortlisted for Event of the Year. The Run is a challenge to put on each year, but we love doing it. It’s a real team effort – and an event that we are very proud of. We’re also really pleased to hear that Balloons has been shortlisted for Charity of the Year in the same Awards. Michelmores raised a total of £89,600 for Balloons over our two-year partnership, so it’s also been a fantastic year for them. Fingers crossed for us both on the night!”
The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on 12 April at The University of Exeter.
