We are excited to announce the return of the annual Insects as Food and Feed (IAFF25) conference, taking place on Thursday 9 October 2025 at the Elm Grove Conference Centre, University of Roehampton, London.
Hosted by the Royal Entomological Society’s Food and Feed Special Interest Group (SIG) in partnership with Michelmores, IAFF25 continues to unite a diverse community of scientists, farmers, food technologists, legal experts, and chefs dedicated to advancing the sustainable use of insects as a novel and vital protein source.
Michelmores is proud to support the insect protein sector with legal guidance that helps innovators navigate complex legislation, ensuring safe, compliant, and successful market entry. Our lawyers attending the conference include:
- Rachel O’Connor, a Partner in Michelmores’ Agriculture team. Rachel has developed an expertise in the law relating to insects as an alternative protein source both in animal feed and for human consumption. Rachel led the Michelmores team advising on the legislative aspects of the WWF Roadmap to Accelerating Insect Protein in UK Feeds. She provided guidance, support and advice on the regulatory landscape, identifying legislative barriers to the scale-up of the industry, as well as recommendations for change.
- David Thompson, a Partner in Michelmores’ Commercial & Intellectual Property team. David has strong agri-tech credentials, supporting a comprehensive array of clients operating in this field, including animal feed manufacturers.
- Nicole Hambleton, an Associate in Michelmores’ Employment and Immigration team. Nicole has experience advising innovative businesses, investors and entrepreneurs, and supports clients pioneering sustainable food technologies to navigate complex UK immigration pathways and employment practices.
This hybrid event will offer an in-depth exploration of the latest breakthroughs, challenges, and opportunities in the rapidly evolving insect protein sector. Attendees will gain insights into emerging legislation, industry developments, insect welfare and ethical considerations, and strategies to boost public acceptance and market integration of insect-based foods and feeds.
The conference programme features focused sessions, with opportunity for active engagement and debate. Topics include:
- Ethics of entomophagy: insect protein within the UK landscape
- Nutritional value of insect protein in animal feed and human food
- Application of insects/insect protein in food and feed formulation
