45 – I wake up and enjoy my Icelandic yogurt with blueberries and honey. I am working from home as it is Friday so sit back and watch BBC Breakfast before getting ready for work.
45 – I log on and check my emails. I can see I need to work on a few important matters today. The most pressing matter is an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate for the development of 21 dwellings. As part of the appeal, we have, among other things, been assisting the developer with the drafting of the section 106 planning obligations.
30 – I can see that the original section 106 counterparts are in the post and on their way to our Bristol office. In the meantime, I review the undertakings we gave to two parties and ensure that we discharge them using the ringfenced undertaking monies provided to us by our client.
30 – The original section 106 counterparts have now arrived at our Bristol office. I ask for these to be scanned in and then check that each has been executed properly. The section 106 planning obligations were executed as unilateral undertakings rather than as agreements with the local authority due to time constraints. I update the client and get these counterparts sent over to the Planning Inspectorate so they can review the planning obligations prior to the appeal hearing.
00 – I review our Work in Progress (WIP) on file for the above matter and email across my billing proposal to the matter lawyer who will discuss this with the matter partner.
45 – I go outside to eat my lunch, it is very sunny.
45 – I return from my lunch break, I am sunburnt as I sat outside for too long.
00 – I start drafting a section 106 unilateral undertaking on another matter. I start by identifying the parties to the undertaking. We are acting for a trust but as it is not a separate legal entity, it must be signed individually by its trustees so I make sure they are added as parties and that they all have separate execution blocks.
30 – I am now drafting the key provisions of the unilateral undertaking. These include affordable housing provisions and financial contributions.
00 – I proofread the unilateral undertaking before sending it off to the matter lawyer with an explanation of what I have amended.
30 – As it is nearing the end of the day, I open up my matter tracker and update each of my matters so that I know what I need to work on next week.
00 – I log off.
