It seems that every month there is a report on a company being hacked and personal data being put at risk. Recently eBay hit the headlines as one of the latest victims of cybercrime and as a result, has asked all of its customers to reset their passwords. Now, an Exeter-based seminar hosted by Michelmores Solicitors is going to discuss the risk of cyber crime for internet users, and potential liability associated with data storage.
The “Cyber Risk Uncovered” seminar will pose the question, “Can data security exist in the digital age?”
Tom Torkar, an Associate with Michelmores and a member of the firm’s Technology, Media & Communications team will discuss cyber crime and the law: is this area being adequately dealt with under current legislation, including the new EU Directive and British Standards?
Specialist cyber security firm OpenSecure will also examine what constitutes cyber crime and where the threats are coming from, while representatives of the Beazley Insurance Group will discuss cyber liability and whether businesses that store data can insure against cyber intrusion.
Tom Torkar said: “Cyber crime is one of those threats that’s all too easy to ignore, but the fact is it can happen to any business that relies on secure data storage. Disregarding the threat can put your business at great risk. This seminar presents a timely opportunity of finding out just what the threats are and what businesses can do about it.”
The seminar will be chaired by insurance brokers Bluefin and is being held at Michelmores headquarters at Woodwater House, Pynes Hill, Exeter on Tuesday 17 June, between 8.30 am and 10.30am.
