Specialist contribution on surrogacy law by Louisa Ghevaert to the fifth edition of the International Family Law Practice 2016-2017
The International Family Law Practice is recognised as an essential guide for family lawyers on international family law. The fifth edition for 2016-2017 was published last month to meet continued growth in international family law cases -http://www.jordanpublishing.co.uk/practice-areas/family/publications/international-family-law-practice-the#.WHy2EPmnxPA .
Louisa Ghevaert, Head of Michelmores' Fertility & Parenting Team, is delighted to have once again provided a specialist contribution on surrogacy law for this indispensable family law textbook. It provides a summary of surrogacy law in the UK, its application internationally and recent case law.
The field of international family law raises complex legal issues. The UK decision to leave the EU on 23 June 2016, known as 'Brexit', raises many more questions and issues in this rapidly developing area. The precise timing and terms of the UK's exit from the EU have yet to be worked out. This fifth edition looks to the future following Brexit. It will be regularly digitally updated until the sixth edition is published next year.
Louisa Ghevaert comments "The international arena has seen many changes in recent months. Brexit, the election of a new US President, recent developments in Europe socially and politically and further afield creates many challenges. There is also no international harmonisation of fertility and surrogacy law. This means expert family and fertility law advice is essential for anyone building a family through assisted conception or wanting to secure their family in this rapidly evolving global landscape".
The fifth edition of The International Family Law Practice contains 30 chapters addressing a wide range of topics including: surrogacy, international adoption, child relocation, same-sex and cohabitation relationships, marital agreements and financial provision after an overseas divorce.
Louisa Ghevaert is a leading expert in fertility, surrogacy and family law. Her award winning legal practice includes: international and UK surrogacy, complex children and family law disputes, divorce and finances, cohabitation relationships, solo and same-sex parenting, donor conception, co-parenting, financial provision for a child, fertility treatment law, posthumous conception and family law.
