About

Philip is a Partner in the Real Estate team and leads the real estate strand of our Private Wealth team.

He joined Michelmores in 2010, and undertakes a broad range of property work, including the buying and selling of high value and complex residential and commercial property, agricultural estates, farms and dealing with commercial leases, renewables projects and secured lending.

Philip also deals extensively with development projects, including the negotiation of option agreements, promotion agreements and secured lending. 

Philip is a member of the Country Land & Business Association and the NFU and is a board member of the Devon Federation of Young Farmers.

Recent Experience

  • Advising a land owner on the disposal of a residential development site to a developer, conditional upon the grant of planning permission for development and incorporating complicated and bespoke overage provisions, which were eventually tested by the developer and found to be robust.
  • Acting on the grant of an option to a quality house builder. The deal included the relocation of an agricultural tenant and provided for the development of the site in various phases. The landowner was keen to maintain the integrity and reputation of the estate amongst the local community.
  • Advising on the corporate disposal of a £multi-million commercial farming operation, including complex tax considerations.
  • Advising a residential developer on a detailed site investigation including advising on poorly drafted leasehold agreements and freehold disposals of part and providing advice on the best way to manage the estate and to develop it further.
