Before joining Michelmores in 2013, Laura previously worked for a small law firm in the family team after graduating from the University of Oxford Brookes in 2012 with a first class Law degree.

Laura supports a variety of educational institutions including schools, academies, and free schools with a particular expertise in advising on and establishing collaborative structures. Laura also advises on a range of day-to-day issues that schools face including policies, special educational needs, health & safety and governance. 

Laura has worked closely with Antony Power (Partner and Head of Education) as an education lawyer since joining the team in 2013 and has extensive academies experience.  Laura has now acted on over 100 academy conversions and transfers whilst supporting over 100 schools on a variety of education matters including governance, collaboration, achieving economies of scale and policy. Laura has built strong relationships with key individuals at the Education Funding Agency, Department for Education, including senior Policy members. 

Laura is currently the Acting Chair of Governors and Vice Chair of Governors at a maintained Primary School in Devon.

Recent Experience

  • Acting for an existing client which required several schools to be transferred to new trusts.  Laura's role was to provide advice and support on multiple issues in relation to TUPE, corporate governance, employment and contractual matters.
  • Providing support to a number of schools, headteachers and business managers dealing with challenging parental issues including freedom of information requests, subject access requests, challenging parents and social media campaigns.
  • Following Michemores' appointment as legal partner to the Cornwall Association of Primary Headteachers, and Devon Association of Primary Headteachers providing legal support to the boards and their members.
  • Advising the Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust on the opening of an all through school at Cranbrook, Exeter.
