James is the head of the London Employment Law team, based in our London office. He advises on all aspects of employment law in both the private and public sectors.
James is recognised as a "Leading Individual" in the Legal 500 and a "Notable Practitioner" in Chambers & Partners. He specialises in statutory and contractual disputes, collective consultation issues, executive terminations and the domestic employment aspects of national and international business mergers and acquisitions.
James often undertakes his own advocacy before the Employment Tribunals has been involved in a number of high profile cases in the High Court, relating to the enforcement of restrictive covenants and occupational disease.
James is a keen skier and member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the East India Club. He is a Liveryman and a School governor.
- Advising a leading multidiscipline construction and resource recovery group with a turnover of in excess of £1bn on its day to day Human Resources needs and acting on its behalf on contentious matters.
- Enforcing restrictive covenants contained in the employment contracts of a number of sales staff engaged in the sale of technology by a multi-national corporation, through a breach of contract injunction claim in the High Court, following their en masse defection to a competitor.
- Achieving a settlement in excess of half a million pounds, after the initiation of proceedings in the High Court, for a city executive who suffered psychiatric illness as a result of his treatment in a high pressured office environment.
