Alan is a Partner in the Construction & Engineering department based in both the Bristol and Exeter offices.
Alan is recognised as one of the South West's leading construction solicitors and focuses predominately on the transactional side advising a wide range of clients within the construction and infrastructure sectors. He has been in the construction sector during all of his career starting as an apprentice and then working for national developers and contractors as a quantity surveyor before re-qualifying as a solicitor.. Alan is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB) and a member of the Society of Construction Law. He is also a board member of Constructing Excellence South West (CESW) and has been the joint author of a number of publications for CESW.
Alan advises clients on procurement structures and has a specialism in collaborative and alliancing arrangements. Also, he advises on construction due diligence for acquisitions and development funding for both residential and commercial properties. He advises a number of public sector bodies on government funded projects and has a special interest in asset management maintenance contracts and service level agreements and 'soft landings' provisions. Alan advises on specialist areas in construction such as Building Information Modelling, off-site manufacturing, the CDM Regulations, bespoke insurance arrangements, dispute resolution arrangements, digital contracts, early contractor involvement and other Government initiatives and policies.
