Michelmores Managing Partner Malcolm Dickinson and team sleep out overnight for YMCA's Sleep Easy week
On 4 March, Malcolm Dickinson, Simon Barnett, Sandra Wright, Ally Fleet and Hilary Eckleswood from Michelmores joined other local people to sleep outside for the night at Exeter Castle, taking part in YMCA's Sleep Easy week.
Over 150 people took part in the annual event in Exeter, sleeping overnight on cardboard beds to help raise money and awareness of the work that the YMCA do. So far, over £26,000 has been raised, which will be used to support YMCA Exeter's housing and accommodation services for young people. The charity also offers employment support, mentoring to ex-offenders and youth services for teenagers across Devon.
Hilary Eckleswood, Volunteering Lead and CSR representative at Michelmores said:
"Trying to get to sleep in the Castle carpark gave us an insight into living on tarmac in the open on a very cold and wet night. Although we didn't experience the deprivation a homeless person does, it certainly made us appreciate our warm beds and a roof over our heads. It opened our eyes to the fantastic work that YMCA Exeter does and we were humbled to support such a great charity."
The Michelmores team are still fundraising and are keen to meet their target. If you would like to support the project, you can donate here.
