Virtual Graduate Open Day - what to expect

We are very pleased to announce we will be hosting our annual Graduate Open Day virtually on Tuesday 26 January 2021.

With this being our first virtual open day, I sat down (virtually) with Becky Pike, a member of our graduate recruitment team to find out what attendees might expect.

Who can attendees expect to meet?

You can expect to meet many of our solicitors, partners and trainees throughout the day. Our Managing Partner, Tim Richards, will be kicking off the event, welcoming attendees to the afternoon. This will be followed by our Training Principal, Alexandra Watson, providing an overview of our training contracts and upcoming deadlines. Alexandra will then introduce our panel session with our trainees and NQs who will be giving an insight into life as a trainee at Michelmores before then meeting more of our solicitors, partners and trainees during the rest of the afternoon!

What activities do you have lined up?

Harry Trick, Senior Associate in our Corporate Team will be giving an overview of a recent deal, an opportunity to learn more about law in practice.

We will also be running an interactive session on demonstrating commercial awareness. This will be a fantastic opportunity to pick up some tips for upcoming applications, assessment days and interviews.

When does the event begin?

The event starts at 3pm and should end around 7pm.

Is there opportunity to network?

We will be hosting a networking session towards the end of the day. This will allow you to chat with some of our trainees, solicitors and partners across a variety of teams and departments.

Our open days are a great opportunity to ask questions and help you find out more about the Firm. Virtual or not, you really get an insight into the culture of Michelmores and learn about the various different experiences and paths people within the Firm have taken to get to where they are today. The activities are designed to help you craft your applications and do your best at our assessment centres. The networking session provides the opportunity to build your professional network as well as ask questions in a more relaxed setting. Here are some of our top tips on how to make the most of an Open Day:

  • Do your research in advance so that you can find out more about the firm and the people you will be meeting during the event.
  • Next, put together a list of questions you would like to ask. This will help you to get the most out of the day and get answers to questions which cannot easily be answered by looking online.
  • Take notes throughout so that you can refer back to any helpful points from the afternoon at a later point.
  • Open Days are a great way to build your network. You may wish to ask to connect with anyone you meet on the day on LinkedIn, as well as connect with the firm itself to keep up to date with news and updates they share!
