Trainee blog: islands in the (MAIN) stream
Whilst incorporating a Dolly Parton song into a blog title is a first, marketing and business opportunities at Michelmores are aplenty, and trainees are actively encouraged to get involved. Here's a recent example:
In 2020 the firm launched 'MAINstream' - a network for business angel investors, (registered with the UK Business Angels Association). It aims to support and advise innovative start-ups and growth businesses by introducing them to Angel Investors.
MAINstream's members are experienced entrepreneurs and investors who are actively looking to invest in, and provide ongoing support to, exciting and disruptive ventures. Many of our members have themselves started, scaled, and exited successful businesses.
High-growth early-stage companies are being invited to present their businesses to members of the network at a number of pitch events throughout the year.
Our clients benefit from introductions to potential investors and advice and the members, as well as being introduced to a new investment opportunity, also benefit from networking opportunities, and invitations to relevant seminars and training hosted by Michelmores.
The MAINstream selection panel met earlier last week (which is made up of investors and Michelmores lawyers) and has now selected four applicant companies to pitch on 24 June. I was invited along to sit in on the session and see first-hand how we work closely with both entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals. Trainees in the Corporate and Commercial teams are often invited to these sessions and assist with providing feedback to applicants.
Marketing and business development are a key part of your training contract. On qualification, you will be expected to be ready to generate your own work and build your personal network!
