An interview with Philip Parrott – Associate in the Property team, based in Exeter
What has been your proudest moment so far at Michelmores?
I'm lucky enough to work on properties all over the country and it is always a proud moment to drive or walk past a client's finished project. One particularly active retail client always sends us photographs of finished stores and we are tasked with guessing which store it is. It's really rewarding to see when a client appreciates the efforts of all of their professional advisors in helping make a project possible.
What is the best place you've travelled to?
I'd probably say Costa Rica. I travelled there for a summer before starting my training contract (which feels a very long time ago now) and had an unforgettable experience volunteering in local schools, helping with a conservation project involving baby turtles and generally exploring the country in my free time. The exceptional wildlife, beaches, coffee and especially the 'Pura Vida' attitude of the people were all truly unique.
Ibiza comes a close second. Any destination you have made seven 'pilgrimages' to deserves a special mention!
What has been your favourite social event since joining Michelmores?
So far I've only made it to the Great Gatsby Ball due to holiday clashes but that was great fun... perhaps the forthcoming Michelmores Quiz will steal number one spot if our team is victorious.
What is the best way to spend a day in the South West?
I've not been here for all that long, having relocated from up t'North about 18 months ago, so I'm still really enjoying finding out what the South West has to offer. I've loved exploring so far and it's a fantastic luxury being close to so many beaches and beautiful scenery. The last couple of months have included fun trips to Salcombe, Lyme Regis, North Devon and, of course, Sandy Park.
What book will you take on holiday with you this year?
I'm planning a trip to South-East Asia in the Autumn so I've got my eye on a Lonely Planet. Once I have figured out where all of the good bars and restaurants are, I'll probably just take a risk at the airport and turn to whatever is getting good reviews at the time.
What is the best part of your job?
It's great to be at a firm where you're recognised as an individual and not just a number – I think a firm of our size and culture really helps to encourage that feeling. I enjoy working in my supportive team and currently have a great spread of types and flows of work, which is always important.
What's one thing on your bucket list?
It's an ambition to play all of the UK's top 100 golf courses. I'm miles off, having clocked up less than ten, so need both plenty of encouragement and an early retirement. Offers of a game always welcome! Aside from that, it would have to be one day having my portrait appear on The Michelmores Wall in the Exeter client reception.
