Douglas Hawthorn appointed as a Vice Chair of the IBA Insolvency Section, Legislation and Policy Sub-Committee.
Douglas Hawthorn, Partner in the Banking, Restructuring & Insolvency team at Michelmores, has been appointed as a Vice Chair of the International Bar Association (IBA) Insolvency Section, Legislation and Policy Sub-Committee.
Established in 1947, the IBA has become known as the global voice of the legal profession, supporting international legal practitioners, bar associates and law societies.
As a Vice-Chair of the Sub Committee, a key part of Douglas' role will be to support the organisation of the 25th annual IBA Global Insolvency and Restructuring Conference in São Paulo, Brazil in May 2019.
The Conference will be hosted by the IBA Insolvency Section and the IBA Latin American Regional Forum. Topics for discussion will include developments on UNCITRAL cross-border law (on which Douglas has previously written), the impact of technology on insolvency, liquidation of financial institutions and fintechs, and new trends in the bankruptcy ecosystem.
Douglas said: "To support our growing and ambitious clients, it is essential that we have a strong and reliable international network of quality independent law firms (like us) that we can rely on, and that can rely on us to support their growing and ambitious clients. Our membership of the IBA helps us to achieve that. I am very excited to join the Legislation and Policy Sub-Committee and to work with colleagues from around the World, in my case, focussing particularly on cross-border issues that may arise from the United Kingdom's exit from the European Unioin."
At Michelmores, Douglas specialises in advising private equity sponsors, financial institutions, investors, companies, directors, turnaround professionals and insolvency practitioners on debt restructuring, and turnaround and insolvency situations.
Michelmores' London-based Banking, Restructuring & Insolvency team are ranked in the Legal 500 listings for 2018, where Douglas is also a 'named practitioner'.
Michelmores is a member of the IBA, and works closely with a network of over 100 law firms globally, to support of clients internationally. For more information on our international connections, click here.
