Becky Tilke’s great sporting achievement

Becky Tilke’s great sporting achievement

Michelmores’ Becky Tilke, a Paralegal in the Commercial Litigation team, won the Regional Final of the Old Mutual Wealth Golf Challenge at Celtic Manor on 18 August, and will now be competing at the National Final in September.

At the Regional Final, Becky was described as the ‘runaway leader’ of her group in the competition, shooting 82 in difficult playing conditions. She played to a very high standard, even making a birdie on the toughest hole of the former Ryder Cup ‘2010’ course.

Around 600 golf clubs in England, Scotland and Wales entered contestants for the Challenge and Becky is now one of only eight men and women who will compete in the Grand Final, which takes place on 29 September at the picturesque Old Head Golf Links in Co Cork, Ireland.

Becky said of the upcoming final;

‘It’s going to be the hardest course I’ve ever played – it’s so remote and being right on the cliffs there are so many opportunities to lose the ball! I’d love to win it, but I’m just so looking forward to the experience of it all.’

On top of this, Becky recently came second at the ‘American Golf Longest Drive Championship’ national finals, after qualifying as the regional champion in June. She had three attempts to hit the ball as far as possible against each of her three opponents, with her longest drive being measured at over 240 yards in wind and rain. This was enough to see her through to the final, where she unfortunately lost out to a professional golfer! The competition was filmed by Sky Sports but has yet to be broadcast – we will keep you up to date when this is on.

Congratulations Becky, and good luck for the Old Mutual Wealth final.
