Seminar to examine Elder Abuse

In response to the growing public concern about how elderly people are being treated in the UK, a seminar aimed at professional advisers and care providers has been arranged to address the main issues.

Organised by Solicitors for the Elderly in Devon & Cornwall, the seminar will feature influential speaker Gary FitzGerald, Chief Executive of the charity, Action on Elder Abuse (AEA).

The seminar will discuss the Nature of Elder Abuse - victims, perpetrators and reasons; Adult Safeguarding; Experience of victims and outcomes; Context of Abuse, looking at examples of why they might have happened.

Louise Tribble, a solicitor with Michelmores LLP and Chair for Solicitors for the Elderly in Devon & Cornwall said: "This is the first of three seminars we will be organising in 2012 and previous experience tell us that we can expect around 70 solicitors, accountants and financial advisers.  Because of the topics under review at this seminar, we are hoping to attract care home providers as well.

"Gary FitzGerald is an acknowledged authority on the subject of elder abuse and is a regular contributor to radio and television programme analysis.

The 'Action on Elder Abuse' Seminar takes place at Sandy Park Conference centre on January 24th January from 2pm - 5.15pm..
