Young professionals learn how to get the best out of networking events

The young guns of the region’s professional firms gathered at Michelmores Solicitors last week in a unique seminar aimed at taking the dread out of speaking with strangers at networking events.

The Junior Lawyers of Devon & Somerset teamed up with RICS Matrics and the South West of England Chartered Accountants’ Student Society to learn the tricks of successful networking, skills that will be invaluable during their professional skills.

Delegates heard from Judy Salmon, a Business Coach and Personal Development Consultant with over 20 years’ experience, who showed how to gain more business from networking.

Jade Porter, Education Secretary of the Junior Lawyers Division and a solicitor at Michelmores, said: “Networking is an important part of business life but many people just don’t know how to work the system or how to speak with the right people.”

“Judy provided some fantastic tips on maximizing your opportunities at these events, how to break into and out of groups, what to say and how to connect with people.  She certainly helped allay the apprehension many feel when they attend networking functions.”
