Common Myths about Mesothelioma Claims

Personal injury association releases myth-busting guide.

The charity and industry body Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) has released a booklet dispelling popular myths about mesothelioma claims, with their own suggestions for how these can be remedied.

The UK has one of the highest rates of death from mesothelioma in the world, with the number of deaths from the disease rising and set to peak in around 2016. It is therefore more important than ever that sufferers are granted ready access to justice.

The APIL booklet includes the myths that mesothelioma claims are straightforward, and that claimants should not need to go to court to obtain fair compensation; in fact, the process of proving an employer's negligence can be a complex process requiring expert help.

Defendant employers, according to a survey carried out by APIL, only admit liability 10% of the time, with mesothelioma victims having to fight for their damages in the remaining instances. The right for sufferers of the disease to go to court must, therefore, be preserved.
