Michelmores acts in delivering the largest Commercial Court in the world
The Rolls Building, the largest Commercial Court in the world, was opened by Her Majesty the Queen on Wednesday 7 December 2011.
The complex has been designed for financial, business and property disputes and has 31 Court Rooms, 11 Hearing Rooms and 55 Consultation Rooms. In addition, there is a library of electronic documents which enables Judges, lawyers and parties to have secure access from any computer in the world.
The Rolls Building houses the Chancery Division of the High Court, the Admiralty and the Commercial Court, and the Technology and Construction Court.
Michelmores LPP were instructed by the Ministry of Justice at the outset of the transaction and have been involved throughout the procurement process, the interviews of perspective developers and the negotiations with the chosen contractor.
An Agreement for Lease with the contractor was signed in 2008 and as the Building approached completion in late summer 2011, the professional teams acting for the contractor and the Ministry entered into various meetings ahead of practical completion and Michelmores were actively involved in all of those discussions.
The Commercial Team acting for the Ministry, including Philip Page from Michelmores, were introduced to Her Majesty by David Thompson, Director of the Royal Courts of Justice Group at the Ministry of Justice.
