Simon joined Michelmores in 1987 and became a Partner in 1990. Since 2002 he has been on the firm's management board.
Simon has immense experience in commercial litigation disputes across a broad range of sectors, with a particular focus on providing advice to higher education institutions and in acting for clients involved in professional negligence disputes. He also has great experience in acting for both the public and private sectors in the eviction of persons illegally occupying land on which development is planned, and has been involved in several high profile cases of this nature.
Simon is also Under Sheriff of Devon and is licensed by the Department for Constitutional Affairs as a High Court Enforcement Officer. He is recommended by both the Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners guides to the legal profession.
Recent work includes:
- Acting for a bonded warehouse owner in obtaining a freezing injunction, and in subsequent negotiations with HM Customs & Excise to reduce duty payable;
- Prosecuting a fraudulent misrepresentation claim for an individual arising out of a failed / aborted commercial property transaction;
- Acting for a private individual in a professional negligence claim against a firm of accountants for providing misleading advice prior to a sale of the client's business;
- Acting for a company against a firm of solicitors who had failed to advise correctly when purchasing a property;
- Advising and drafting Codes of Conduct for Student Discipline; drafting procedures for the handling and hearing of student disciplinary cases, including appeals; organising the running of Disciplinary Hearings; advising and writing procedures for the handling of student complaints, and organising the running of Student Complaint Hearings.
Simon is presently a Director and Committee Member of the High Court Enforcement Officers Association and one of two Committee Members responsible for overseeing discipline.
