Sacha has over 10 years' experience as a specialist insolvency and restructuring solicitor. He deals with all types of restructuring and insolvency issues including business and asset sales by office holders, antecedent transaction advice and recovery, and all aspects of appointment holders' duties, powers and responsibilities.
Although Sacha has a predominantly corporate background, he is also fully conversant with the full range of personal insolvency issues including IVAs and bankruptcy recovery.
Significant matters during 2010/11 include the following:
- Advising the liquidator of Dartmoor Zoological Park, the subject of "We Bought a Zoo" by Benjamin Mee, a Channel 4 documentary and an upcoming Hollywood movie staring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johannson
- Advising a proposed purchaser in relation to the ROK business that entered administration in November 2010
- Conflict advice to the administrators of Faith Shoes in relation to a discrete retention of title issue
- Continuing to advise Begbies Traynor, the administrators of JAG Communications Limited, at one time the 3rd largest mobile phone retail outlet in the UK
- Advising Grant Thornton, the administrators of a £1m care home on the continued trading and subsequent sale of the property and business. Such advice included specialist care home sector based advice
- Advising the purchasers of a major van hire business with a fleet of over 300 vehicles, involving some complex issues relating to retention of title and asset finance
- Advising Devon Commercial Property Limited in relation to various issues arising from the administration of the group trading company, Devon Cider Company Limited, including the appointment of a Law of Property Act receiver over a property valued at around £4m
- Continuing to advise Smith & Williamson in relation to the administration of a large precision engineering company supplying to major companies including Siemens
- Advising a partner of Moore Stephens as the trustee in bankruptcy of an antecedent transaction of around £600,000
- Advising the administrators of Waycotts Limited, a long established firm of South West surveyors, in relation to a pre-pack sale and post completion issues
- Advising various clearing banks on the extent and validity of security
In addition to the above instructions over the last 12 months, Sacha has advised office holders generally (including KPMG, PwC, BDO Stoy Hayward, Francis Clark, and Bishop Fleming) in relation to many other matters including business and asset sales including by way of pre-pack; realisations by trustees in bankruptcy; directors' duties; extensions and exits from administrations; recovery of significant and complex book debts; and misfeasance proceedings against directors.
