Michelmores to host First Sea Lord

Admiral Sir Mark StanhopeThe First Sea Lord and Chief of the UK's Naval Staff is to be the guest of honour at Michelmores Solicitors next business breakfast on 12 March which will be raising funds for the Help the Heroes Charity.

Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope KCB OBE is the senior serving officer in the Royal Navy and has a distinguished 40 year career including service as a submarine commander before commanding the frigate HMS London and the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious.

Sir Mark was also Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation at NATO from 2005 until November 2007, when he became Commander-in-Chief Fleet.

Andrew Maynard, Director of Michelmores' Client Services, said: "We are delighted that Sir Mark is able to join us as the latest speaker in a long line of distinguished guests at our business breakfasts."

In January Sir Mark defended the Royal Navy's role in the UK's defence policy, saying we must look "beyond Afghanistan" and maintain a Royal Navy fleet able to operate with full capabilities around the world, adding that the Afghan conflict was not the "only game in town". He also warned that the Navy had to be ready for "surprises and strategic shocks", like the Falklands invasion.

The Michelmores Business Breakfast, in aid of Help for Heroes, is an invitation-only event and will be held at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre at Lympstone on 12 March 2010.
