Michelmores continues with expansion plans
Following the announcement that London and South West based Michelmores LLP has maintained its 20% plus year on year growth in 2008, the ambitious firm has further expanded its Mayfair offices with the announcement of three significant lateral hires at partner level.
Nationally and internationally recognised commercial litigator Peter Sigler joins from Nabarro LLP where he was a partner for nearly 27 years, during which time he held a number of positions including Head of Litigation. His appointment brings Michelmores partnership to a total of 41.
Peter specialises in corporate/commercial dispute resolution, insolvency-related claims, banking litigation and arbitration. He has built considerable contacts with senior lawyers in a number of jurisdictions, in particular the US, Europe, Canada, India and Israel, and has been a long standing member of the IBA.
He is also honorary legal adviser to the Lord's Taverners.
Chris Elias joins Michelmores' London office to develop further the firm's private client practice in the capital. The former partner at Thomas Eggar and former managing partner at Oswald Hickson Collier has an international client portfolio and specialises in advising individuals in connection with domicile and residence issues, related tax planning and both residential and commercial property investment.
Corporate lawyer Joe Whitfield has joined Michelmores Business Group from US firm Steptoe and Johnson where he was a partner in their London office. He was previously General Counsel to CDC Group plc, the UK Government's development finance institution investing in a wide variety of sectors throughout the emerging markets.
Joe specialises in international and domestic investment and financing transactions, with a particular focus on the emerging markets, including Africa, South Asia, and Latin America where he has represented a number of leading international financial institutions, private equity and other funds, corporations, and government agencies on a wide variety of complex cross border transactions.
Charles Maunder, Head of Michelmores London practice, said: "Peter, Joe and Chris will play a significant role in our future growth strategy. We see opportunity in the current revival of the litigation market and the ongoing fallout from the credit crunch and Peter is one of the most experienced and capable lawyers in these sectors.
"Joe has all-round corporate and commercial experience. He has built his own practice and has a fantastic track record of business development from a broad range of established contacts.
"Chris is a hugely respected private client lawyer and his specialist knowledge provides Michelmores London office with a complete service to high net worth individuals."
