Exeter law firm lands London Universities panel

Announcement follows Michelmores appointment to advise Members of London Universities Purchasing Consortium (LUPC)

Following on from representing the University of Exeter on a number of significant projects, London and Exeter based Michelmores has been appointed to a legal panel of specialist law firms to offer advice to over 60 educational and research institutions in and around London. Michelmores competed against over 30 firms nationwide for a place on the panel.

LUPC provides a service to a range of organisations including Universities, Colleges, Museums and Research Institutions in London and the surrounding area. The organisation was established to maximise its purchasing power in the market place. The provision of a legal services panel of advisers is a new addition to a growing range of offerings to Members of LUPC.

Michelmores has been appointed for three years and will offer the panel of Members legal advice within the broad category of Property and Corporate Finance.

Emma Honey, Michelmores' Education Partner, said: "We are delighted to be appointed by the London Universities Purchasing Consortium.

"We fully recognise the importance of providing a value for money service to our education sector clients during the current economic climate, when workloads are increasing and budgets shrinking. We are aware of the changing policy background our education clients are operating in. As well as advising Universities, we are currently advising further education institutions on maximising the use of the limited central Government funds and exploring initiatives such as setting up 'Free Schools' and transfer to 'Academy Status'."

Carol McCormack, Head of Projects and Michelmores' Lead Partner for LUPC, added: "The appointment reflects our specialist expertise in the fields of Property and Corporate Finance and our strength in this sector in both Exeter and London."
