Exeter adoption lawyer appointed to national monitoring body

An Exeter based childcare specialist lawyer has been appointed to the Legal Group Advisory Committee of the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF).

Rachel Cook is part of Michelmores Solicitors' 8-strong childcare team based at Woodwater House, Pynes Hill Exeter.

Rachel Cook explained: "The Legal Group Advisory Committee aims to consider relevant issues and advise BAAF on legal, social and procedural issues relating to adoption, fostering and the welfare of children.

"There are only 21 members nationally and this committee enables us to keep abreast of relevant legislation and to use the forum to explore issues in more depth along with the opportunity to network with fellow practitioners.

"It is an important source of knowledge that I now have access to enabling me to pass current thinking on to my colleagues and to maximize the benefit to our clients."

Michelmores successful family and childcare team has just completed its first year as a unit and as is now looking to recruit another qualified solicitor to the team.

Partner and head of department, Simon Thomas and associate Vanessa Priddis were recently identified as "Leaders in their field' by the influential legal directory Chambers & Partners.

Simon Thomas said: "We have seen steady growth in the department over this last year but we are anticipating an upsurge in instructions as family issues including divorce proceedings and child protection matters tend to spike after the schools holidays and again after Christmas."
