Energy from Waste – major seminar programme to discuss opportunities in Anaerobic Digestion
The farming community is to be given the chance to listen to expert advice on the opportunities open to them in Anaerobic Digestion (AD).
AD is a renewable technology which converts waste to energy providing a source of electricity and heat supply.
Seminar programme organiser Mark Howard, an associate with Michelmores Solicitors and an expert in environmental issues, said: "Because the technology complies with the Government's objectives of securing the country's energy supply and reducing greenhouse emissions, it attracts grants and produces saleable energy certificates as well as providing a cheap personal source of heat and energy.
"There are thousands of AD plants in Europe but less than 20 in the UK. The technology will really take off soon so now is the time for the farming to community to learn about the opportunities open to them."
In addition to Mark Howard, Clydesdale Bank's Mike Rowe will speak on the lender's perspective to funding AD projects, while Mark Neath of Old Mill Chartered Accountants will discuss financial issues.
Each of the three locations chosen for the seminar will also feature a guest speaker: Estate Manager John Varley, who will discuss Clinton Estate's experience of AD (Bicton Arena, 15 October); Phil Hobbs of Wyke Research who will compare biogas plant performance (Royal Bath & West Showground, 22 October); and Will Kirkman, Commercial Director of Bioplex who will look at AD for solid manure systems (Royal Cornwall Showground, 12 November).
All the seminars are free of charge commencing at 10.30am and culminating with lunch. Further information and reservations can be made by contacting Merryn Marsh at Michelmores LLP on 01392 688688 or merryn.marsh@michelmores.com
