Bribery Act

The Bribery Act 2010 will come into force on the 1 July 2011.

This new legislation updates existing legislation on bribery. The Act creates four offences relating to Bribery, including a strict liability offence for failure by a business to prevent bribery.

To ensure businesses operate within the new laws, all businesses will have to consider and review what policies they have in place to prevent bribery and meet the requirements of the law.

We can advise on:

  • The various offences of bribery and their application to your business
  • What procedures/policies businesses can usefully put in place both to prevent bribery in the first instance and to demonstrate that the business has put in place adequate procedures to prevent bribery
  • The relevance of the new laws to marketing activities and/or corporate hospitality
  • Contracting with third parties
  • Internal training of staff
